SFM & SFMMO: Preview Friday

It’s Friday again, and that means, another weekend full of European club football ahead – and the Bundesliga is now joining as well!

The first match day already came with a couple of surprises: Manchester United is off to a horror start after their 3:0 loss at Hull City, while PSG came back from the Bretagne with only one point after their draw against Stade Rennes! Needless to say that those results also caught the SFMMO off guard.

But this weekend does already hold up with a couple of interesting match-ups. So let’s dive right in and see what the SFMMO and SFM foresee!

🥅 Preview – Matches

Napolivs.Como

Napoli is awaiting the first home game of its 100th anniversary season, and Cesc Fabregas’ Como is invited to join the party. Napoli started the season with a win at Daniele DeRossi’s Genova, while Como couldn’t take more than a single point at Udine.

With Como having achieved an outstanding result last season, the team from Lago di Como is secretively regarded as having the potential for another stellar season by many outlets, e.g. Opta. The SFMMO’s pre-season odds had them similarly ranked high up the table: #3 – right above Napoli! Hence, losing is already forbidden for Cesc Fabregas’ team!

It is, however, also Massimiliano Allegri’s first home game as a head coach of the Partenopei – and the tifosi have high hopes this season.

🤓 SFMMO: Who wins?

The SFMMO has the odds tilted towards the Partenopei: about 45%. Still, the most likely scoreline is a draw: 1-1. This is not a contradiction. Napoli’s roads to taking three points are just more likely than Como’s, while the modal scoreline is still 1-1.

🏃 SFM: Who are the players, most likely to score?

The SFM says: Kevin de Bruyne and Antonio Vergara for Napoli and Tassos Douvikas for Como.

Aston Villavs.Arsenal

At the end of last season it would have been fourth placed Aston Villa hosting the reigning Champion. On the first matchday however, Aston Villa suffered a devastating blow out at Brighton, while Arsenal demonstrated its ambitions with a 3:0 win over Frank Lampard’s Coventry City. It will thus be interesting to see Villa’s reaction – whether last week was just a fluke or the beginning of a trend...

🤓 SFMMO: Who wins?

The SFMMO has the odds clearly tilted towards the Gunners, with about a 57% of them winning – with a very tight 90% credible region ranging between 53% - 60%! Still, the most likely scoreline is a draw: 1-1 – again, not a contradiction.

🏃 SFM: Who are the players, most likely to score?

The SFM says: Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka for the Gunners and Ollie Watkins for Villa – if he is not already off to the Saudi desert...
